Be thirsty heart

Today’s mantra.  All of this longing and storminess clearly has a purpose.

Be thirsty heart,
seek forever without a rest.
Let this soundless longing
hidden deep inside you
be the source
of every word you say.

-Rumi

I find it interesting that, up until about a week ago, I was convinced that Rumi was a woman.  I think deep down, I still am convinced.  Is that some sort of reverse machismo? To think that this author, who knew love so well, could only be a woman?  Or is it that we seek the reflection of ourselves in others?
